Educating the next generation of safety professionals

Members of Tyler Union’s safety team shared their expertise with students from the local American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) chapter at Jacksonville State University.

Anniston Operations Health and Safety Director Josh Gunning discussed the scope of safety hazards - such as molten metal - encountered at Tyler Union, The McWane Way and the importance of a strong safety culture, as well as how classroom education translates into real-world applications.

Gunning also shared the mission of the McWane, Inc. family of companies in providing critical infrastructure people rely on. Tyler Union Safety Training and Development Specialist Michael Kiser spoke to students about integrating new training mediums to enhance safety education for the next generation. To wrap up the event, students enjoyed Chick-fil-A provided by Tyler Union.

“On behalf of the Jacksonville State University ASSP Student Chapter, we sincerely appreciate Josh Gunning and Michael Kiser for taking the time to share their knowledge and experience with our members,” said Dalton McElroy, M&H Valve Company safety trainer and ASSP member. “Their commitment to workplace safety and willingness to educate the next generation of safety professionals is invaluable.”
