The Clow Valve Wellness Committee recently announced that they would be sponsoring wellness screenings for all team members and their spouses. To encourage team participation, the screenings were offered free of charge (a $135 value). On April 4, 170 team members and 4 family members took advantage of this opportunity.

The ultrasound screenings were quick and painless and team members received the results immediately on location. Using the non-invasive, ultrasound screening process, they tested for:

  • Plaque buildup and blockages in carotid arteries (in the neck)
  • Limited blood flow in peripheral arteries (in the arms and legs)
  • Aneurysms in the abdominal aortic artery (above the belly button)
  • Low or abnormal bone density (testing the heel, the most weight- bearing bone)

Age and gender appropriate screenings are an important tool in managing our health. It is a good idea to talk with your doctor about screenings that are right for you. It’s even more important to take steps to control blood pressure and cholesterol levels, maintain a healthy weight, avoid tobacco use, select a nutritious diet, and participate in regular physical activity. A healthier workforce will benefit everyone. It results in lower absenteeism, lower medical costs and potentially lower insurance premiums for everyone. These are just a few reasons for all of us to take responsibility for our health. We owe it to ourselves and our families to be the best that we can be.
