Over 100 different countries join together in the celebration of Earth Day, April 22nd. Earth Day is the largest, most celebrated environmental event world wide. On Earth Day we remember to appreciate nature and learn ways to protect our environment.

This year Rita Gallant  and Beckie Morrell, (Claw Canada, Saint John), went  to Lomond School where their children attend, located about 15 minutes from the plant, to help pick up garbage around the school and neighborhood in celebration of Earth Day 2013. Beckie says, “as you know, McWane encourages community involvement and both Rita and I enjoy helping out. This year we created a "Trash Scavenger Hunt" for the children to help make the cleaning a little more exciting. We had 15 items on the list which included items like candy wrappers, empty cans, bottle caps, something plastic and we even added ‘something bigger than your nose' for a little laugh. We were surprised how much all the children enjoyed this idea. They were finding picking up trash, then running to us to see if the item was still on the list.

Clow Canada also donated a few recycling bins to the school and we provided each child with a copy of the scavenger hunt items so they could try it at home with their parents around their own neighborhoods. After the cleanup we celebrated with Timbits!”
